Goals Update - March 21, 2010

Stage 1: Character

Occupation Goal – I will continue to be seen as a valuable asset at work by being open to new ideas and job tasks, being a change leader and seeking new responsibilities. I was honored at work by the Executive team on Thursday, March 18 for my work on our company-wide software initiative. I was commended for my unending work ethic and ability to tend to two job positions, making strides in each position.
Stage 2: Education and Scholarship

Spirituality Goal – I will read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. I have begun reading this book, even completing some of the exercises in the book.
Family Goal – I will complete my Daughters of the American Revolution and General Society of Mayflower Descendants applications, with complete documentation. I have identified at least 4 American Revolution Patriots from which I descend and 2 Mayflower passengers. I have located additional primary source records and found additional DAR Patriots as well as a double line back to the Mayflower passenger I descend from.

Stage 3: Interests and Talents

Family Goal – My family does not live very close to me, and I am a single woman. However, I have best friends who live only 20 minutes away who have two beautiful children whom I consider family. Oftentimes, my hobbies, school or heir family obligations get in the way. I will make a special effort to plan time with them two times a month for six months over the course of a year (allowing for family obligations and work schedules) to do activities that the children enjoy. At ages two and 12m their curiosities vary significantly, but Detroit offers a great number of no- and low-cost events for developing minds. On Friday, March 19 I took my 12 year old (please note my older nephew is 12 years not 12mounths) to see the Beauty and the Beast musical, which he enjoyed very much. Then, on Sunday, March 21, my parents came down to visit me and my two year old nephew came over simply to play and have fun. He very much enjoyed playing with my three friendly cats (he has one that is not friendly) and with his cars all over my wood floors (they only have carpet at home).
Delta Gamma Goal – I will contact the Region 4 Regional Collegiate Specialist and Regional Housing Director to volunteer as an Advisory Team Chairman and/or House Corp member at one or more of the Michigan collegiate chapters (Xi, Zeta or Beta Xi). Kathy Slane has emailed me back to set up a meeting the weekend of April 10-11 for House Corp and Cyrena Keating has contacted Debbie Etheridge to get approval for me to serve on the HC for Xi chapter and to serve as the ATC of Beta Xi chapter. I am very excited to serve both of these chapters.

Stage 4: Activities and Honors

Occupation Goal – I particularly enjoy working with color, therefore I will pursue opportunities to educate myself on the properties and addition/subtraction qualities of color to better enhance my work performance. I am registered to go on a work seminar where one of the workshops is focused on color.

Spirituality Goal – I will take 10-15 minutes daily for a minimum of two months to meditate, clearing mind and rejuvenating my and spirit. I have been able to do this since Wednesday, March 17. I find afterword that I am relaxed and ready to go to bed much easier.

Stage 5: Personal Development

Spirituality Goal – In order to become a more well-rounded individual and offer service within the visually-impaired community, I will seek an on-going volunteer position or a volunteer position that is short-term that requires a high-level of dedication that will help me better appreciate the intrinsic gifts I do have and can offer to others, Sight. Several options to review include Leader Dog. I have applied for a volunteer position with Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Delta Gamma Goal – I will help my alumnae chapter, as well as any collegiate chapters I may be assigned to as ATC or as House Corp member, to strive to do their best so that they may be the best women they can be and be recognized by Executive Office for the exceptional changes they have made. In addition, I will make a minimum of $20 monetary donation to newly installed collegiate chapters and alumnae groups/chapters over the next two years (through April 2012) so they may be able to have a solid beginning. I sent in my donation ($20.10) to the Share in the Future for College of Charleston. I was notified that there will be no Celebrate in the Future for the Charleston Alumnae Chapter.
